About Mei Zhen

Mei Zhen Chinese restaurant is located in the Hilltop North Shopping Center on Laskin Road which is in the best area of Virginia Beach 2 miles from the oceanfront.

Mr. Fang acquired the former Kuey's Garden, a successful 35-year restaurant and renamed it as Mei Zhen in February, 2000. In the Chinese language, Mei Zhen means beautiful and treasure and it is also Mr. Fang's wife's name.

Mr. Fang offers his guests both enjoyable ambience and truly superb tasting Chinese cuisine which he decribes as “mei zhen” to honor his wonderful wife Mei Zhen.

Mr. Fang worked as a chef in New York City before Mei Zhen was started; therefore Mr. Fang does not only keep the former Kuey's Garden's traditional Cantonese style for the current Mei Zhen restaurant cuisine he also brings in the New York Chinese food style and recipes to Virginia.

With Mr. Fang's and his wife's efforts Mei Zhen's business increased and has earned its reputation gradually. In a “Good Taste and Good Time” poll taken by the Cuisine Scene News, Mei Zhen scored 50th of 500 excellent restaurants in this area.

Mr. Fang opened the Mei Zhen II restaurant in Nov. 2004. In time Mr. Fang consolidated the two restaurants into Mei Zhen Restaurant to better control the quality and services of both operations.

Mr. Fang's business philosophy is that to be better is more important than to be the best. Currently Mr. Fang and his wife are focusing on making Mei Zhen Restaurant better than the best everyday.
